James Calvin (JC) Hancock is the son of June and Farley Hancock (both deceased). He was born at Cumberland Medical Center, here in Crossville, Tennessee. At seventeen years of age, following his graduation from Cumberland County High School, JC became a soldier in the United States Army and served our country honorably for seven years under President Ronald Reagan.
Upon completion of his service to our nation, JC returned home to Cumberland County where he served as a Deputy Sheriff under the leadership of Sheriff Dale Elmore and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. JC served the Sheriff’s Department for two years before becoming a Police Officer for the Crossville Police Department in 1990. JC rose through the ranks to that of Detective Sergeant where he currently supervises a unit of Detectives and all major investigations for the police department.
During his years of service to the Police Department, JC was instrumental in instituting several programs within the Cumberland County school system including the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance and Education) Program and G.R.E.A.T. (the Gang Resistance Education and Training) which were sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). In addition, JC was also the first School Resource Officer (SRO) in the Cumberland County school system.
JC served Cumberland County as a member of the Cumberland County Board of Education (1998 – 2001) where he was elected by his peers to serve as the Chairman of the Board. During his tenure as a school board member JC worked with the Cumberland County Commission and County Mayor’s Office on programs including but not limited to budgeting and building. During JC’s time as Chairman of the Board of Education several main goals were accomplished including the renovation of three elementary schools as well as the arrangement of funding and the donation of property for the building of Brown Elementary School was achieved.
JC lives in the Linary community with his wife, Kim Conforti Hancock and their two sons, Tyler,19 and Julian,13.
